Art and Nature Musings

June 30th 2025

Our beloved greyhound, Louis, died last August of cancer, and we’ve been dogless and gloomy, but now have a new dog as of 5 weeks ago. His name is Percy:

He’s thought to be just over a year old, and he’s full of puppyish enthusiasm. It’s great tone out walking again with necessity and purpose.

Today I have finally (okay almost finally) finished a set of paintings of Scotland from March.

There are 2 good things about this: one, I’m proud of them! two, I can start painting the shimmering greens and faded yellows of high summer actually in the high summer, and stop the dissonance of painting chilly mauves.

Here are the 8 of them propped up on my studio wall.

In nature news, there was a Comma butterfly on the buddleia bush, and later a hummingbird hawkmoth!.I put the bush in hoping for exactly these 2, so I’m thrilled!
